Depression, Narcissism, and Dr. Karasu

by on

The article about Dr. Karasu about the Very Rich in psychotherapy noted that young persons born into Very Wealthy families “are so often narcissistic in a way that excludes depression.”

This made me stop to think about the many people from history where we think there is suggestion of depression or some kind of mental health problem: Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Van Gogh, and many people who suffered in silence and will always be admired for their accomplishments and contributions to humanity.

I wonder if those with a tendency to suffer slightly or strongly from this very common part of the human condition often have greater levels of empathy, sensitivity, and compassion? I suspect this is so.
