Dr. Eric J. Green and The American Mental Health Foundation invite you to participate in two interactive Webinars:

September 5, 2014,”Integrating Expressive Arts and Play Therapy with Adults: Toward Self-healing and Renewal”

Provides the overview, research support, and step-by-step protocol for mental-health clinicians to begin the process of successfully and competently integrating various disciplines of the expressive arts, including play-based interventions, with adult clients and adult supervises in clinical practice.

The rationale of utilizing expressive arts and play therapy with adults has been demonstrated in the research to increase self-expression, decrease anxiety, and increase positive feelings of self-worth, including improved communication in significant social relationships.

Some of the play therapy-based interventions adapted for adults and demonstrated in this Webinar may include (a) interior dialoguing through play therapy-based picture journaling (b) practicing difficult dialogues through role plays and/or puppet shows; (c) creating individualized art work/and or painting on a canvas; (d) coloring mandalas; (e) music therapy; (f) creating sand pictures via sand-play; and (g) engagement with nature through outdoor dance/movement/physical activities. The Webinar will conclude with clinical implications for self-healing and renewal.

Learning Objectives
After the Webinar, participants will be able to….

(1) List two research-supported benefits for incorporating expressive arts and play therapy with adults in clinical work
(2) Identify two expressive art/play-based interventions to use with adults
(3) Discuss one implication for self-healing and one implication for renewal derived from the use of expressive arts and play therapy with adults

November 6, 2014, 3 PM to 5 PM EST, “Disaster Mental Health with Children and Families: Playing in Peril”

Disaster mental health does not involve long-term psychotherapy with children. Instead, it includes the brief execution of Psych First Aid and a phase-based model of care to assist survivors with safety and stabilization in the immediate to intermediate aftermath of any disaster.

This focus is to prepare mental-health practitioners who may be deployed to work with child-and-family survivors following a natural or human-made disaster.

The presentation specifically addresses integrating the principles of the play-therapy relationship and play-based interventions within the disaster mental-health matrix.

Integration of play-therapy-based interventions in disaster mental health includes developmentally sensitive approaches that may lower the risks of negative effects associated with trauma from exposure to a natural disaster. They may also increase a traumatized child’s access to and use of protective processes and mechanisms.

Dr. Green draws upon his extensive clinical work in successfully integrating play therapy with children following disasters over the past ten years. (This includes Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 and 2006; the deadly tornadoes in Moore, OK, in 2013; Storm Sandy in 2012; and the mass school-shooting at Virginia Tech in 2007 as well as Newtown-Sandy Hook, Connecticut).

Learning Objectives
After the Webinar, participants will be able to…

(1) Identify the disaster mental health model that integrates play-based interventions with children
(2) Provide one play-based technique that may facilitate safety and stabilization with children following a disaster
(3) Provide one play-based technique that may facilitate children accessing their protective processes following a disaster
(4) List two attributes of the play therapy relationship that can be transferred in disaster mental health to increase children’s posttraumatic recovery

Each Webinar awards 2 CEU certified by APT, NASW, NBCC (November 6 only)

$35 each or $65 for both Webinars. Sign up by July 31 for the special rate of $30 each or $60 for both
