Michelle Harrison, MD, Joins the AMHF Advisory Board

Michelle Harrison, MD, joins The American Mental Health Foundation professional-advisory board as of June 1, 2018.

She is also nominated for its board of directors.

Dr. Harrison is a U.S. physician of family medicine, psychiatry, and obstetrics with international stature.

From 2006 to the present, Dr. Harrison directs Childlife Preserve Shishur Sevay, which she founded. This nonprofit is for orphan girls, some with disabilities, in Kolkata (Calcutta), India.

From 1994 to 2000, Dr. Harrison was, first, Worldwide Director of Medical Affairs, then executive director of Johnson & Johnson Institute for Children. In these capacities, she worked with the European Commission, WHO, PAHO, the World Bank, and other global organizations.

Concomitant and prior to these positions, Dr. Harrison was Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, UMDNJ; Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine; and a Fellow in Psychopharmacology at the New England Medical Center Hospital, Tufts University.

Dr. Harrison commenced her career in rural South Carolina as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson‘s War on Poverty. She is the author of the first book on PMS (Self-help for Premenstrual Syndrome) and A Woman in Residence also from Penguin Random House.
