Dr. Melissa Wanamaker will soon contribute a substantive blog on the subject of depression and Alexandra Styron, daughter of famed author William Styron. Following is Dr. Wanamaker’s biographical sketch.

Melissa C. Wanamaker, Ph.D., L.C.S.W.-R., is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, licensed in New York State as a social worker. She is in private practice in Manhattan and in Queens. Since 2003 she has been an instructor at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute & Society, Extension Division. She has lectured and published in depression and anxiety, especially as related to early childhood loss. Her article on William Styron may be found in the Psychoanalytic Review (1999). A new article, “A Spectrum of Shadowed Mirroring,” about failed mother-child relationships, is forthcoming. Wanamaker was a lecturer in English at Barnard College and a former Time magazine staff correspondent, prior to becoming a psychotherapist. Her doctorate is in English literature from Columbia University.
